I lived in Turkey for almost three years and was met with nothing but kindness. This pisses me off and we should cancel all shore leave and let the shopkeepers who will lose money deal with the idiot government.

I was stationed at Incirlik for my first assignment and have nothing but good memories of my travels there.
The question I have is why would they have shore leave there at this point in time? Last year they sent all of the dependents home from Incirlik making it a hardship tour now, and last I heard everyone is confined to the base.

My two trips to Istanbul occurred in 1981. Very quiet time, politically. Made very a very pleasant visit to that extremely historic city. I could not see it all, but the people were cordial and instructive.
