It should be covered by medical insurance.

the procedure needs to be destigmatize and treated like any other life-saving medical treatment. For example having a baby cost about $40,000, cancer treatment $300,000, in vitro fertilization $200,000, GRS $15,000.

How is elective surgery "life saving?"

MAJ Montgomery Granger - It's not 'elective' for some. And I understand why some people object to this form of treatment. At the very least there should be a discussion about it.

I have no quarrel with a person's choice to undergo gender reassignment surgery. I do no believe that the DoD or the VA or any government money should be allocated to pay for it.

Live and let live, but your abnormal situation should not be the problem of the military with public funds. You want braces, pay for them. You want plastic surgery, pay for it. You want to alter your body in a way that has nothing to do with your job, that's on you. Peace, love and personal responsibility. Hooah!

MAJ Montgomery Granger You obviously have no idea what the criteria are for various mental health diagnoses are. Do yourself a favor & pick up a DSM V. Schizophrenia has nothing to do with this.

MAJ Montgomery Granger first thing we can cut out is ED drugs. That will save at least 84 million dollars a year according to the DOD. Then we can cut out all medical care and surgeries related to smoking, drinking, drugs over eating, lack of exercise just to get started.
