In the original Top Gun, I remember seeing Tom Cruise riding on a motorcycle without a helmet. When did the helmet lock get started in California? I was shocked that in the year 2000, Boise Idaho still had no helmet law when I went there for my Reserve component tank commanders course. When did Idaho have their helmet law?

In 85/86 when Top Gun was filmed, the helmet law didn't exist.
The scene where Maverick and Goose get chewed out by the CAG after helping the other plane down was filmed in the Admiral's in Port cabin of the USS Ranger CV-61.
The scene where they get the mission briefing to go after the MIGs at the end was filmed in the Chief's mess which was being rehabbed. In the back of the scene which was fogged out, you can the addition piping needed for the rehabbing hanging down.
