I don't know what the problem would be if a Republican responded that way. Everything he said is true.

If Cruz tried to answer like that (he never would nor would any Republican) he would probably bungle it up somehow because that's just how he is.

If I heard a Republican say the exact same words said by this Democrat I would not see the issue because it is true that Americans do not want to do hard labor. They don't want to work on farms, in fields, etc. They just don't want to do it. That's why illegal immigrants get hired because they will do pretty much any job.

SCPO Jason McLaughlin - My solution absolutely does resolve that problem. If we open up a seasonal unskilled labor program, we are talking about now documented immigrants who are here legally and who are also subject to the same labor laws afforded to US citizens. Minimum wage would be required, safety, etc... The alternative is what encourages employers who are already acting illegally by hiring illegal immigrants in the first place. They in turn pay their illegal labor less simply because they can and they are not necessarily interested in treating them fairly or humanely.

Once they are documented, legal, and earning a legal paycheck, taxes are then imposed. On top of that, when they make enough money, they could even buy a house, where they contribute to the property taxes for the state. Other benefits are predicated on their status and how long their visa is good for. So now we're getting more revenue to the government to include sales taxes, property taxes, income taxes, and the taxes imposed when they attempt to send money outside this country (which happens a lot by illegal immigrants).

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - I'll post it on my Facebook and see how many of my African American friends respond as you think they may. Or liberal friends.

The Democrats overall do not want completely open borders. That is a myth. I think one Democrat was seen wearing a shirt about it and no one could ever get a clarifying remark about it from his staff. Otherwise, no Democrats don't want 100% open borders.

We fix the issue by overhauling our immigration system which is so complex and wildly ridiculous. The problem is getting both sides to sit down and actually work something out like adults.

"Securing the border would help fix this problem and enable us to get our hands around who is already here, get them documented, throw out the criminals, and eventually restructure our numbers for more legal immigration. Plenty of ideas have been put on the table like work visas to do seasonal work in this country. This opens the door for unskilled labor to have a chance at a better life legally without having to hide in the shadows. But we also want to bring in the brightest and the skilled immigrants to this country too."

I hope you don't think a wall will secure the border. It really will not do anything with illegal immigrants or drug trafficking. The majority of drugs coming in from Mexico come in through legal ports of entry, especially in Arizona. That's the drug issue. And illegal immigrants? So we build a wall on the southern border - what about the northern border? More immigrants are now buying a plane ticket to Canada because it's cheaper - and coming in through Canada. So how does that border get secured? Another wall? Is Canada going to pay for that?

I was tempted to post the quote by itself and ask what people thought about it from a GOP candidate. I decided not to. Still, I've seen examples already where similar statement with similar associations have absolutely been met with outrage. A recent example was the "monkey this up" statement by DeSantis in FL.

As for the rest of your statement. First, not saying all but there is a significant portion of Democrats who outright say they do, some who do but do not say so publicly, and others who don't really but try to appear open to it so as not to piss of a part of their base. But for argument's sake let's say they're absolutely not. Do you really think they're effective at insisting that position? Saying you're not for open borders and effectively doing everything you can to prevent the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants is effectively supporting an open border initiative.

On working this out, as I've said to another, I don't really think the Dems really want to you which you can read in the other post. It doesn't have to be that complex and fighting over the wall is just dumb. You ask me if I think the wall we secure the border. Allow to answer it this way as a cyber defense expert. First, do you think a firewall completely protects a network? I'll answer that... no, it doesn't. But is it effective in keeping out a lot of the traffic? Absolutely! But the are still ways and this is why most security experts (cyber and then some) will tell you that defense in depth is how one protects a significant asset. Am I arguing for a coast to coast wall? No, but I'm hardly concerned about having it. A secure border needs to be a mix of barriers, virtual detection capabilities, cooperation between the local and federal law enforcement communities (to include border patrol and ICE), cooperation from employers and foreign nations, and the denial of continuous social services to illegal immigrants. All of it needs to happen and like it or not, a wall will in fact help in that effort. Will people find ways to get around it? Sure! But the same could be said of the fence line around a military base. Should we tear those down as they are not 100% effective?

Brietbart?
Supporting black Americans??
What a laugh!

What O'Rouke said is true. There are many jobs out there that are not being filed because our American workers don't want to do them, while those coming here to better there lives are willing to do so. Been that way forever.

Force? That's not what he said. He's talking about healthy capable people on welfare who have a choice. Once their welfare period ends, get a job or don't get paid. As you said, the jobs exist.

MSG, I am speaking to the reference of the "Cotton Gin" work for illegal immigrants stated to an African American. I think deep down you know that this reference would have sparked a nerve if spoken by someone on the other side of the political isle.

CPT Gregory Hafera - How do you propose stopping the drugs that come in through legal ports of entry then? Illegal immigration isn't the only thing at the border that's an issue.

How do you stop those who come in from Canada? It's cheaper for someone to get a plane ticket to Canada and come in that way then coming in through Mexico. Put a wall there too? A wall isn't going to stop anything.

CPT Gregory Hafera -
"Illegal Immigration is a lot like slavery" - What employers do when they knowingly and illegally hire illegal immigrants essentially is slavery.

"started voting Republican" - No they didn't, they voted Democrat. Today neither side condones slavery. Those that do and claim one side over the other do not subscribe to the principles of either, nor do they speak for me.

"In fact the only difference between illegal immigration and slavery is the the illegal immigrant is coming here voluntarily." - Not entirely, human trafficking is alive and strong within the illegal immigration community.

"We have to take a step back and remember that slavery pretty much was the state of humanity" - We need to take a step back and realize that enabling illegal immigration is inhumane and needs to be dealt with. I don't want to close our borders to keep people out, I want to close them to monitor who comes in and enable our ability to control the numbers for our own national interests. it sound harsh I realize but to open the doors will only result in the downfall of this country. We simply cannot sustain that many people.

"So what do we do about it?" - We already made it illegal to employ them. This has been the law since as far back as Reagan. Back then he made a deal with Democrats. amnesty for those already here but we impose the employment laws to discourage more from coming here illegally. The Dems have not exactly been living up to their end of the deal by offering them government services and suggesting we do more like allow them to vote.

"The wall" is not the end all to this problem but I believe it could help. What's frustrating is how much of a big deal the Dems make it out to be. Give him the wall and live up to the measures you agreed to in a future immigration bill. But they won't. 1. They can't give Trump a victory because this would galvanize his current base and likely bring more followers. 2. They aren't actually serious about the concessions they've offered because they know it will take a polarizing issue against Republicans out of the mix. 3. They will likely lose votes from the far left side which wants open borders. This is all about votes and building the base. If the Republicans succeed in a good immigration bill which also places them in the good graces of future Latino voters, the Dems know they will loose big.
