Somehow, the buying and selling of U.S. Military decorations bothers me. I realize it's legal, but I found the Air Medal of Lt (jg) William H. Ryan, who was the pilot of the PB4Y-1 (B-24) my Uncle was an Aviation Radioman for and became MIA in WW2. I don't know how this type of artifact gets bought and sold, but it bothers me. Just today, the nephew of Lt Ryan reached out to me. His mother is apparently still alive and it makes me wonder how medals get away from their families. I have my uncle's Air Medal and I'll never let it get out of the family.

I try not to judge in stuff like this. Maybe someone needed money? I know my father in law decorations are important to us but by the 3 or 4th generation maybe not.

True, and it is historical. I would feel guilty buying this stuff, for whatever reason.

Some are lost in moves, found in abandoned homes, or sold at auction when no one is left. The significance of the medals are lost to separation of generations who have served.
