I strongly agree with this post, and would like to recognize a few under-seen reasons that today's military prepared soldiers for professional civilian employment.
1.) The education requirements for advancement demonstrate a need for understanding that one does not move "up" but can still move foreword without further education.
2.) One needs initiative in order to be successful; things do not simply go your way because you will them to.
3.) Veterans understand stressful situations and diversity, and both of those things can strongly play a role in the type of career sought and the limits to where one can go after their military career.
The Army has its flaws, but I see it in little ways, like giving classes on OPORDS or SHARP, that it is practice and preparation for a professional career in the long-term.
