Getting shot is still a big deal, SAPI plates or not.
Aside from some finish coatings, today's rifles and carbines aren't made significantly differently than they were back when, and current-issue ammunition actually wears out barrels and other components faster than the Vietnam-era equivalents.
And I have to clean up the coffee spray from when I got to the claim that comm issues are a thing of the past and it's never a problem replacing a down radio.
