This has been a problem for decades. The HFD union has refused to negotiate pay raises, and they just waited to get a ballot issue. They pushed the crap out of the Proposition for pay equity, even though the Mayor told everyone that there would be repercussions. It is like every other organization, where there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

All these headlines are just attention getters and irritating as hell. I hate how they are portraying like it is all the Mayors fault. The Police Department took the responsible, slight raises with good Retirement route years ago. The Firefighter Department took the unsustainable Retirement with No Raise Route. Now they are crying about the poor decision, but won't give up that Retirement Package so they can get raises. At least that is my understanding in a nut shell.

SGT Cody Skinner - Yep! Nailed it. The police negotiated every couple of years, and the FD refused. Now, they are paying the piper and trying to lay the blame at the feet of the Mayor.

We will see how that works out, either they were over staffed or the HFD will be unable to serve their community. As with a $15 minimum pay, there will be job losses.
