Everyone does deserve due process, but due process is not involved in a confirmation hearing.

John, don't be an idiot. Due process doesn't apply to confirmation hearings. The nominee is not entitled to the job, it's not a liberty or property right, and if he doesn't like the process, he has the power to end it, unlike a person who is facing criminal charges or the loss of property.

Due process, when applicable, applies to everyone in the United States. That includes both Democrats and Republicans, citizens and non-citizens, adults and minors, and so on.

No but trying someone in the court of public opinion by calling them a rapist (which wasn’t even the accusation) saying he should be around children and other hateful things about this man that have been put on TV even though claimed witnesses don’t recall it ever happening are pretty shitty don’t you think? I agree he is not entitled to the job. That is what the vote is for. I just hate the attacks that are being waived around with no proof. People are calling him guilty when he hasn’t even been charged with anything. It is makng a mockery of the process. What if it happened to you Greg? What if someone you don’t remember from childhood decided to acuse you of something terrible 35 years later? Wouldn’t you want to be able to be heard without people condemning you by a mere acusation? That is my problem with how this went down. Treating people like this, no one is safe. Both sides could spread crap like this. Piss someone off, get accused. You got the promotion and they didn’t get accused. Where does it end?

MSgt (Join to see) - It still doesn't change the law. Due Process does not apply to confirmation hearings. To be honest, the Senate doesn't even have to have hearings or call witnesses. All the Constitution requires is that the Senate "Advice and Consent" to the nomination. Article 1, § 5, cl. 2 of the Constitution allows each house to establish its own rules, so if the Senate did not want to call witnesses, or question the nominee, they could establish whatever procedure that they desire.

As for making a mockery of the process? Sure, because the GOP lacks cajones. Dr. Ford had plenty of time to come forward in the normal course of the nomination. She chose not to do so. The GOP should have told her to pound sand, but they didn't, so they then got to listen to her statement and responses. Had the GOP done what it should have done, there would be no need for Kavanaugh's supporters to whine about him being deprived of "rights" that he doesn't have and to which he is not entitled.

As to 1SG A$$hat, well, he just doesn't like people who disagree with him. I appreciate your comments to him.

I appreciate your legal opinions. I do fear for my son though if things keep going like they are going. When did we switch from listening to women to always believe women? The who trial in the press thing is what angers me the most. It makes me fear what would happen to my husband or son if some female decided to make some claims against them. It is very hard to prove innocence in some of these situations where it is he said she said. Unfortunately to the media you have to prove your innocence. Even if prosecutors decide there is not evidecne to prosecute just try getting a job again. Employers google names now. The wong type of accusations can ruin reputations.
