It's been my belief since I was able to think about it.

I've always found that cutting meat out of one's diet was accepted more heavily in the left leaning communities. Living in Colorado for almost 20 years, a meat central for the US, it was Boulder County/City that had the least meat consumed per capita. Lovingly known as the granola eating, tree hugging, People's Republic of Boulder - an image they earned over decades of displayed lifestyle. I find this statement exceptionally telling:

“Moreover, it has been argued that vegetarianism and veganism form a part of ‘trendy’ Western consumerist lifestyles — only accessible to privileged ‘white’ people.”

Say what?! I thought it was conservatives that were the ONLY "privileged ‘white’ people."

See - this is how you take a study on meat and make it political! ;)

People around here are careful saying "meat". I tend to jump on my soapbox and preach. Dr. recommended no carb (keto) in '16. Excess tonnage - gone. Statins - gone. Blood pressure meds - gone. A1c's - normal. Leg cramps - gone. Money - gone (protein prices) Desire for a big bowl of spaghetti - off the damn charts!!!

My wife and I are approaching a full keto diet. We have diet interuptus with buying a home, packing up, and getting ready to move 1/2 way across the state. Even with all that she has lost 40+ lbs and I have lost 25+ lbs. We will see how the meds go a little later into this lifestyle change. And yes - craving good Italian or Asian cuisine can get fierce at times.
