Fascinating ancient statues on Easter Island, which is to the west of South America. They represented gods which were meant to protect the island. Almost 1,000 were discovered in this modern day. Purportedly these statues are up to 3 stories high and 82 tons. Author states that the natives carved the statues on the ground then lifted them upright by ropes and using a tree trunk.
