He is not the first guy to be lied to by the military. The most important lesson I learned is that recruiters lie.

Ok, I knew this was coming.

No offense meant to recruiters. But I know a bunch of folks (Army, Air Force, Marines) who stated they were led astray by their recruiters. Many were told that if they join "open contract" they can later switch to any job they like after basic training. Not surprisingly, they all became grunts with no opportunity to change jobs. When I ETS from the Active Army and joined the Reserves I signed up for a unit close that my recruiter said was to my home. When my orders came through, it turned out the unit was 3 hours away. Every profession has a certain percentage of knuckleheads, recruiters are no exception.

My comment was made tongue in cheek and not meant to offend any hard working honest recruiters.

This has been an issue for some time; though at least before it was at least facing criticism with some hope of it changing.

Likely now, the hypocrisy will be fully embraced and dialed up further.
