A negligent discharge from an F-16 ? The Science of Stupid happened this week in Belgium. I'm sure pilots and maintenance technicians alike can tell me how easy it is to do this by accident. I'm sure it's normal for planes to have ordinance on board. are there circuit breakers you can purposely turn off to make sure this is not happen? I don't know about Belgium's operational rate but had this been the German luftwaffe, that would have been 10% of their remaining flyable Air Force.

"Weight on wheel" switches prevent firing the gun on the ground. There is an overide switch, but just like doing maintenance on your personal weapon, make sure it's unloaded first! Since it is a Belgium AF F-16, they'll probably promote the guy so as not to offend him/her.
