Sometimes to get a good grip on a situation you must step back and widen the view.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck, it's a duck. The president's actions take some pretty impressive mental gymnastics to try and justify, but the context of the situation paints a pretty clear picture about the president's motives regarding this.

I disagree. I think your view is reactionary and myopic. The Commander in Chief has surrounded himself with the best military minds available. Like any commander, he expects his staff to bring him courses of action that correspond to his intent. He chooses a course of action and then they carry it out. Remember, we don't know what we don't know, and aren't told what we don't need to know. Compared to the last Commander in Chief, who had ZERO combat experienced Army or Marine officers among his advisers, Donald Trump is a miracle worker.

While he initially did have several experienced advisors, he’s systematically driven them from the cabinet. He’s ignored their advice (Mattis), bypassed them (Kelly), or fired them over Twitter (McMaster). Once Sec. Mattis leaves, I don’t believe he’ll even have anyone with significant military experience, the closest would be Sec. Pompeo.
