SPC Douglas Bolton - I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must have been. So many of the children of the Nam vets have disabilities that can be traced to AO. The chemicals actually change the DNA in sperm since dioxin is stored in fat cells in the human body. So there were so many birth defects, as well as other problems, that were passed on unknowingly to the children.

Patricia Overmeyer - I don't know if it is OK to advertise another web site but I will try.
Have you or your husband gone to the Veterans Benefit Network? There are a lot of good people there with a truck-load of knowledge about traversing the VA.
They have a separate section devoted to AO and presumptive cancers. They can help, believe me. When I got prostate cancer, they walked me through the entire procedure.

Anyhoo, you might give them a try:

Best of luck to you and your hubby. BTW, tell him Welcome home for me.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Roger willco. And thanks for the info. I'll check out their services for AO. Right now we have been using the VFW service officers who are pretty good on the AO issues. But the VA refuses at this point to recognize squamous cancers as it is not a "presumptive" and "he most likely got it from sun exposure". Yeah, and there is a study out of Harvard that looked at only blacks or dark skinned Latinos who were in Nam vs. those who weren't in the military. Much higher skin cancer rates for those who served in Nam. I guess they had more sun exposure in Nam than the rest of the American population at the time.
I've talked with our representative, Raul Grijalva, whose office has been pretty good at helping us get this documented. He's aware of it as there are others in this district who are POC/Nam vets who also have squamous. Whether he and anyone else in Congress can change the VA minds....
