Christie Blatchford: Norman defence says attempt to obstruct justice within DND ‘now in play’

This is a trial where vice admiral Norman, the former Chief of Staff of the Canadian military, is being prosecuted by the Canadian government for supposedly leaking information on a project that the prior prime minister approved of. The Admiral and his Council are fighting back and saying that Even though it appears that other people may have leaked the information, the Canadian government is proceeding with trying to convict Vice -Admiral Norman of breach of trust. The project was to retrofit a leased Supply ship the MV Asterix to be an interim Supply ship. The other two Supply ships either rusted-out or had an engine fire which made the ships not repairable nor seaworthy. When the new prime minister Trudeau tried to postpone(euphemism for cancel) this project, his new government found out would be an$ 89 million-dollar charge to the Canadian government as described in the contract. The Canadian government went ahead with the ship project anyway but went after the Admiral for the alleged breach of trust. The ship was retrofitted on time and on budget. The Canadian Supply ship is currently supplying the Canadian Navy and NATO allies with much-needed services.

This is a big scandal because the defense attorney can't get access to the emails of vice admiral Norman. It appears the government trying to cover up or trying to prevent the Admiral from defending himself successfully in court. The abuse of process motion brought forth by his attorney because she says she can't properly defend Admiral Norman will be heard the week of March 25th, 2019.
