Way back when I was in Reserves before I went Reg. AF, I signed a list to get my Gov’t License. I did really good and was invited to be part of a convoy Driving trucks north.. they couldn’t get enough flat beds (borrow drivers from other Reserve units quick enough SoI helped drive Trucks north.. I maintained my distant and another
5 ft. Guys kept telling me to close it up.. my stubbornness saved my butt. a ways back when we left the last rest area. A truvk 4 vehicles back was trying to catch up.. well I liked maintaining that extra length.. Up ahead a idiot tried cutting through our convoy to get off an exit. A duece n half backed off enough for him to cut through.
And Well it happened guy behind him and so-on.. almost back to my vehicle.. my keeping my extra distance along with guy behind me did the same.. I didn’t slam the guy in front and the guy following me didn’t slam me. The 3 behind us did slam each other. Not much not as much as those ahead of us.. everybody almost was filling reports except me .. the guy following got tapped . They made him still see a doc.. just cause you didn’t hit nobody and the guy behind didn’t hit you, you’re gonna help these guys fill their reports !
(WTF, I’m thinking .. punished for being a good driver?)... We got forms in our travel portfolio in the truck. So I got a big table in the hall and we went over each question . A MSGT from Motor pool asked why was an A1C doing the report inquiry.. “I wasn’t, We we’re just going over each step. I was the only one that didn’t hit or was hit, So the Major picked me to run this sit-rep MSGT D___. If you any more comments Please direct them to him.. thank you !” He left.. csme back with a Lt Col..... He was more cordial.. “So where are we on this sitrep Airman Herrst?” “Number 12, Sir.”. “Have you ever done this before ?” No Sir, I was tagged to drive a truck up Sir, my occupation is a Cook, 62250, Sir!”
“You’re doing an excellent job A1C Herrst.. keep it up !” And he exited.. the MSGT was on his heel,
He wasn’t eating no crow given by an A1C... my group got done first .. it was late and we were bushed.. we’d be going home via Greyhound.. another long ride, at least it’d Be faster and more comfortable .
