I looked up the genealogy of Koreans and the conventional wisdom is they are related to the Chinese and Japanese, but the three groups became distinct as the populations evolved over the centuries.

There is some bad history with Japan and Korea. Never tell a Korean that they look Japanese. Many of their mothers/grandmothers were gang raped or ordered to the military whore houses that were run for Japanese troop relaxation. Not a happy topic. Each year, Chosen Ilbo will run articles about the Comfort Women from 1910-45.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - Yes many countries in the region despise Japan for her WW2 actions. I was abandoned at 2 in Korea and was adopted by a Japanese mother and American father and grew up in the Philippines. Her mother was able to escape China during WWII with 3 young kids. Unfortunately her experiences left her as a basket case. My mother lost her father and all she has is his finger nail clippings. The Filipinos thought I was Japanese so I felt some animosity in the Philippines. It takes generations to smoothen out the ruffling caused by wars.
