At National Training Center, Soldiers Now Train for What They Dread: A Fair Fight

Define “fair”

Wow, now I feel ancient. I was at Irwin as one of the Vast Soviet Block hordes posed to sweep across Eastern Europe. Built those elaborate Soviet in depth defenses with miles of wire, dummy minefields and prepping full defilade positions for all the Tankers.
As a grunt, we trained to fight a war in Europe where we would be outnumbered and out gunned. I carried a Dragon part of the time even I was still enlisted. I realized after the first large exercise that I might as well have painted a big sign on me in day glow orange saying shoot me.
