I don't believe the story as they used lethal force against the Green Beret. I firmly believe that they kept him in a choke hold a lot longer after he passed out.

I read that there were suspicions about fraud and that the murder may have been an attempt to prevent that fraud from being discovered by authorities.

What was their actual motive? First, it was horseplay, then money, and one version that they left him at a party or refused to go. Not worth taking his life and a very light sentence.
