Astronomy Picture of the Day

Good Red Friday morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Lynds Dark Nebula 1251." About 1,000 light-years away and drifting above the plane of our Milky Way galaxy, stars are forming here. Explorations of the obscuring interstellar clouds reveal energetic shocks and outflows associated with newborn stars, including the telltale reddish glow in the dust cloud from scattered Herbig-Haro (HH) objects. As stars form, some material from the star is ejected along the axis of the star's rotation. As the material interacts with the interstellar medium, HH objects are formed.
