Astronomy Picture of the Day

Good morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "On the Beach with Mars." Taken last year on Pfeiffer Beach near Big Sur, California, Mars shines brightly to the left of the central bulge of the Milky Way. The exposure was long enough to capture the faint bio-luminescence blooming in the waves along the beach. Now much fainter, Mars can be spotted near the western horizon after sunset, but this month Jupiter is near its closest and brightest in the south.
