Good Red Friday morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "NGC 4676: The Mighty Mice." The long tails of each galaxy in NGC 4676 are drawn out by gravity, for each galaxy has passed through the other. They will (eventually...over the next billion years or so) coalesce to form a single galaxy. Not often imaged with small telescopes, NGC 4676 lies about 300 million light-years away toward the constellation of Bernice's Hair (Coma Berenices). It is located between the constellations Boötes (east), The Hunting Dogs (Canes Venatici, north), Leo (west), and Virgo (south).
