We all had a beginning, but before our beginning, someone had to begin the beginning. We find two very important "In the beginning..." passages in the Bible, Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3. The first three verses of John 1 explain and expand on Genesis 1:1, so let's take a look at both of them.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3)

The human mind cannot comprehend "timelessness" or "eternity" because we are constrained by both time and space, however God is NOT constrained by either time or space. God is timeless and eternal, and the only time He felt the constraints of time and space was in the person of Jesus Christ during His earthly sojourn. When God took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, He experienced our constraints with us. Jesus was not able to be in more than one place at a time.

At some point in eternity, God put His finger down on that point and declared it "the beginning". God started the clock. That fact blows my mind.

In the beginning, God...
John spared no expense in telling us Who started the clock. The divine Word, God's message to humanity, started the clock. If we substitute "the Word" for "God" in Genesis 1:1, we get, "In the beginning, the Word created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)

We are also told that the Word became flesh, thus the Eternal Word is none other than Jesus Christ. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

SPC Michael Duricko, Ph.D I'm doing the best I can with God's help, because I am not a trained Bible scholar. We began a series of studies in Daniel during our WFL session this evening, and it would be great if you could join us.

Good Post, Pilgrim! Wait till the Calm and Silence speaks the word of God to you. It took me two years of travels in life to figure it out, a very pleasing travel in life.
