I’m not seeing an issue here. As long as they remain on church property and only enforce state and city law it’s perfectly fine. Just like a private police force for a hospital.

The problem is that they will also be on the public streets around the church property, and there records are not open to the public. If an officer does something wrong, who do you complain to? What if someone wearing a rainbow flag shirt walks down the sidewalk and is confronted by an officer?

The second issue is what happened in Colorado City, where a cult leader used the police to oppress religious dissidents. Religion does not need a police force.

Well, at least they asked permission. In some places, religious grous have fielded forces to police the populace in general, not just their own adherents
