Personally, I don't like paycheck transparency. I'm not speaking in the context of comparison to women, I mean in general. I don't want my coworkers knowing what I negotiate. Because many people are poor salary negotiators, and I am a good one, I tend to make above median in comparison to other workers, especially in comparison to men. I currently teach so my base salary is established, but I don't want other coworkers knowing the bonuses I negotiate. Because they are poor negotiators, there is room left in the budget for better negotiators. I think women, like men, should learn to better negotiate. In cases of outright discrimination, I fully support anyone who is unlawfully discriminated against seeking recompense. But, to expect that all workers in a similar position should earn exactly the same offends me because I am demonstrably more productive than most others.
