It is important to understand how the civilian world works, while someone is still in the military, and to help facilitate this I have always recommended a combination of on-base and off-base education/college, plus some off-duty part-time "civilian" employment that involves no military skills. Also, a resume for civilian employment needs to be started the first year of high school, not when a military member goes on terminal leave, or decides not to re-enlist.

Yes, and since more and more companies are reviewing LinkedIn profiles, it's important that you read and take heed of what is said. Every point is valid but if you take nothing else away from it, demilitarize your resume and responses to interview questions.
