I am nearing retirement and I was lucky and had the open choice after ETS to select any occupation I wanted to. Initially my goal was to become a Senior Executive of a Fortune 100 or 500 Company. After seeing what the job entailed up close at GM and IBM both, I changed my goal. Money and status are not everything and most CEO's at that level.........the workday never stops, it goes 24 by 7. Some of the GM Executives had bedrooms and kitchens en suite to their offices. Those were not there for luxury but out of necessity. When I saw some of that I decided, I would happily stay a worker bee and have personal time to spend how I chose each day and have weekends to myself. So again money isn't everything, make sure you ask quality of life questions and get an idea of what the hours are of the job and total time away from home before you say yes to that big paycheck.
