I always listened to the NCOs in meetings for two reasons. I appreciated their passion and it showed buy in. If all else fails, commander's intent might give a unit flexibility to choose another COA.

Your point is obv quite well-founded, however, in such instances, certainly, you were dealing with uniformed reality, not what, at least to me, as I'd said below, is nothing but, quite clearly, to my mind, at any rate, sci-fi wannabe fantasy, nothing more...believe me, the MSgt in my specific unit, who'd been RIFd as an O-3, then stayed in to finish his 20 yrs, starting as a TSgt, I obv always listened to quite closely as well, I assure you, most definitely, with equal seriousness.....

Candidly, honestly, I think it's just pure and simple pure Gene Roddenberry fantasy, truly, acted out by wannabes who've never put on a unform, any of them, with a few exceptions among them...now,.Gene Roddenberry, James Doohan, and Leonard Nimoy all.did, all the other ones never did...for that reason, I completely ignore such extemporaneous moralizing as part of sci-fi fantasy, and in no way whatever try to relate it back to actual human existence...I perceive why you ask the question, however, quite honestly, that is my unvarnished reaction to it, I've watched that sci-fi drivel longer than I care to admit, and take it for what it is, visual popcorn, nothing more, honest....

You do know that life follows art sometimes, and there were plenty of moments in world history when subordinates failed to follow orders.
