America-Japan security alliance ‘a problem’ in talks over Kurils, says Russian foreign minister

Of course the Russians would say it's a problem.

Do you expect anyone in competition with us or Japan to be happy about increases in the alliance?

This is not a problem.
First, nobody is going to war over the Kurils.
Second, this issue of sovereignty over those islands has been a thing for 74 years, and everybody has been just fine with security agreements.
Russia just needs stuff to bitch about. Meanwhile, they are actively engaged in a war of conquest in Ukraine. Agreements such as this one are meant to contain such aggression, and they work.
So whatever, Russia.
