I had never thought about it…they were Officers and I wasn’t. I just did my job to the best of my ability. As long as I didn’t piss anyone off, I was probably doing great.

Respect is like a bank. You start an account with a small deposit. Sometimes you add some, sometimes you take away some. I cannot recall specific events where I respected officers more or less based on actions. But I do remember which ones I regarded highly and which ones I considered oxygen thieves.

Nothing. I'm bound by UCMJ to respect the rank. The person on the other hand has to earn it.

Thats literally what the articles question is... "what did an officer do to earn your respect?" Saying nothing, the person has to earn it sounds like a salty answer.
