Yes, I was a little surprised too, at first. Didn't know there were any volcanoes in NZ or off shore NZ. And I have had enough geology course to know better. NZ is on the edge of two plates with many earthquakes so it would be more unusual for there to not also be volcanic activity. I was curious enough to try to find out the volcano situation of NZ. I admit I was very surprised! Here's a map.
