I would say that numbers is a factor, but if a single US Aircraft carrier of frontline fighter fing came in contact with any likely foe, the only real limitation for jacking them up would be how many missiles we have on hand. It would be dramatically one-sided, due to technology edge, tactical superiority, advantages in airborne refueling, AEW, and C2, and vastly superior training and experience.
Just one of our Carriers or fighter wings could take on just about any air force in the world and win decisively. They'd have to be cagey about it with Russia or China, but short of some rabbit being pulled out of a hat, it would be a smoke show.
We need to keep it that way.
