Interesting to find this published in Task and Purpose. I guess I'm surprised because I don't really know what Task and Purpose is (and I'm sure that someone will educate me so I needn't waste time looking it up for myself). This article sounds like the sort of thing that I'd find in any ordinary media such as Time Magazine or the NY Times. It begins with a denial that there is any such thing as a "safe space" in the real world, only in Internet memes. The author apparently doesn't get out much or is blowing smoke to cover for those who frequent safe spaces on American campuses. As for the contention that Mike Rowe is wrong and there are safe spaces in the military, it is apparent that Mr Rowe's statement is misinterpreted, intentionally or not, I can't say with authority. Given my first observation, there's a chance it's intentional. Safe spaces are established to shield those who are easily offended (snowflakes if you prefer) from reality. Reality is an uncomfortable place full of dissension and disagreement. Political correctness infringes on freedom of speech to protect such persons from ideas and words that offend them. Safe spaces are havens for the easily offended when political correctness fails. I can't imagine that any such place exists in the military let alone combat.

T&P was started by some liberal veterans. Read almost any of their articles, op-Ed or not, and you can plainly see the slant.
