In my opinion apples and oranges to compare Russia and China. First Putin took what was becomming a Democratic Government and hijacked it and he clearly wants to be a Dictator and warp the political system. China was not moving towards democracy in it's government and I believe Xi removed the term limits because in a Communist dictatorship the term limits were working against him and his attempts to reform what he thinks needs to change. He had various members in the Communist Party resisting him and attempting to wait him out vs implementing his ideas of reform. So in my view the term limits were largely already meaningless in China. In Russia they were implemented as a step towards moving towards Democracy as if I am not mistaken Boris Yeltsin was elected not appointed. No past Chinese Communist leader was elected by the people as far as I know......what good were the term limits to anyone?

Everything about Putin becomes clear when you consider two things; First-that his rise to power was "unexpected" to say the least, and Second-that his entire course as head of state is defined by attempting to fuse pre-Revolutionary, Tsarist nostalgia with a romanticized view of the post-Stalinist USSR. He's trying very, very hard to be Alexander I and Nikita Khrushchev all rolled into one. Me? I think the man's a plant...and that the roots of both how and why the Federation is run the way it is now go back more than a century.

Putin is only President because Yeltsin feared being put in jail for corruption. Very sad what happened and that Yeltsin made such a fundamental mistake in picking the wrong person.
