At first I thought the article was talking about actual lethality, and I thought, "what's wrong with the military being lethal?" And then I realized it was just talking about the overuse of the word, "Lethality". I think we jump on the bandwagon of certain new words in the military, whenever we think it will add to our budget or help our performance report. Right now, everyone in the Command and Control world is jumping on "Joint All-Domain Command and Control" as the next new thing.

A new catch phrase or buzz word seems to be what is supposed to engender a visceral reaction from the troops and and line commanders. Sometimes the choice can be a positive addition and often it becomes merely words. Ultimately soldiers and line commanders and leaders have to execute them mission we are given. Cute words don't accomplish the mission, men and women get it done. If you should doubt this look up Patton's speech and its not the one he gave in Patton film. I honor the speech General MacArthur gave to West Point, but even that inspiring speech did not execute the mission.

We do tend to get caught up in the next new phrase or word. What I object to is clear misuse: everything is now a "war on..." War is a real event in which people get killed.
