I could be wrong but the first person to coin the words "fake news" was Hillary Clinton. The rest is history. Fact checking is only good as the source which is never social media out lets. Including
you tube and the like.

LTC Lee Bouchard You are wrong.
Social media outlets are not the only sources of 'poor' information/fake news. Due to 'information overload' most individuals never check past the headline/title and believe that it is a correct interpretation of the facts/evidence. And this type of 'fake news' in the modern sense is over one hundred (100) years old. Interestingly television and radio has also contributed to this, and the internet/world wide web just made it worse by creating a deluge of it, and making it almost instantaneous.
Think back to the last five (5) years of your service before retirement, did you not already see the effects of information overload? I am sure that you remember getting copies of the Early Bird Brief, were they full copies or were they trimmed down version. Think about it.

Agreed. However, it is the most commonly used and abused source of poor information because of its popularity. The news media were overloading the news networks with false reporting during the V.N. war to serve your point. There were many other examples as well. Specially now.
