When we lived in Kailua we would kayak out by Chinaman's Hat. The drive took us past the long, rickety dock that figured in the movie.

Sounds like a real hardship tour. Lucky dog you. We had one slot out of Engr School for the Brigade there, and I was #1 so I had first pick. We had a kid from HI in class, so I agreed to pass if everyone else did. Chose Iwakuni JP instead. No complaints. We moved the whole Engr Group to Oki during the tour.

It is gorgeous, everyone should visit. After three years, though, the weather is ALWAYS the same and you realize you are on a 20 mile by 30 mile rock and need to get a plane ride to go anywhere else. But it's a wonderful place to visit.
