Back in the day when I was deploying to Antarctica, we had a small Navy base at Christchurch NZ. At the Exchange and Package Store, cigarettes were $1 a carton and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black was $7. The locals wanted to be your friend. But the most opulent way to show a girl a good time was to take her to the galley when the menu had roast ham. Pork was rare and very expensive. You might see some super thin cuts in the grocery, but only the well to do could afford it. So, take a girl to the galley on ham night and the steward carves off huge slabs; there you go. As it turned out, some number of personnel met their spouses there. However, since the staffing was small, it didn't put much of a dent into the market.

Australia is pretty much just America now.
We should annex it and call it East Dakota.
