I have been to Gettysburg, Battle of the Bulge, Corregidor in the Philippines, and many others and Verdun is the one that most felt like a battlefield. I highly encourage people to visit.

I believe it is the most savage war ever, combining 19th Century tactics with 20th Century weapons.

Such a futile conflict. Millions of men thrown away in pointless assaults and it didn't even solve anything except cause the communists to take over Russia and break the Ottoman Empire into the Arab States that would bring us so much joy in the more recent times.
If you haven't seen 1917, I highly recommend it. It took what "Dunkirk" did and did it better.
