This is profound... and needs to be widely read.

I'll put myself on report here; I'm a stereotypical "Gen Xer" whose reached the point of extreme cynicism (amid two+ decades of war, political circuses, and now... a largely manufactured "crisis" on the back of a very real, potentially crafted contagion). Words like "patriotism" feel like ashes in the mouth of a starving man at times.

Deep within however, I know what I know...and when push comes to shove; it generally anchors me to the facts. The prescient fact, in this case, is that Americans are largely ignorant of the threats; physical, economic, and ideological that reside just beyond our sphere of control. General Smedley Butler was a brave and honorable man...and he was right, but what disgusted him may have been only part of a much broader, much more ominous reality.

Having spending much of my life in the military and private industry traveling around the globe, never have I seen anyplace that is so blessed as those living in the USA.

Exactly. And only those who have travelled broadly (and not just to the "nice" places) can fully understand that.
