Crozier choose a path that he had know would 1. violated operation security 2. Bypassed several layers of his Chain of Command. 3. Send classified information to people outside of the Chain of Command and without security clearances. Now he may have felt justified in doing this, but he certainly should have known that his actions would cost him his command. He bet his Eagles going public and he lost.
Modly's mistake is that he ran his big mouth in public rather that remaining silent, so no sympathy for him either.
All of the Joint Chief and Secretary positions are political. That's nothing new. They all serve at the pleasure of the POTUS.

SPC Robert Conway - My point would be that Obama relieved commanders and Joint Chiefs and did some vindictive shit to several of them and no one in the press cried about them. But my further point is that this guy is painting only part of the picture and leaving out that part of the oath just made him a liar.
