Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "IC 2944: The Running Chicken Nebula." Spanning some 100 light years and 6,000 light years distant in the southern constellation Centaurus, IC 2944 also is near the Southern Cross. I admit that I'm not creative enough to see the chicken. How about you?

Can't find the chicken but it is a fantastic shot. Someone was smoking some wacky tabaco when they named it.

Where exactly is the Running Chicken? by strongmanmike2002
While debate will rage over the popular naming of this nebula, I have heard that the name Running Chicken was first coined by astronomers at the AAO when they viewed UK Schmidt plates ie wide field, and saw the above outline.
