Perhaps in the military you served, submarines were integrated long before Truman. As for eliminating history, these names and icons are reminders of a bad past.

If you know your History, when these bases were named, both sides of the late War had their Heros. They were all still Americans and
Most all the Officers knew each other and had gone to West Point at some time in their career. There is nothing wrong in having these Bases named after them!
