I remember as a young E-3 being a rider in a Hummer that ran out of gas while doing a mounted land-nav course. That's obviously a big No-no. I did what any Marine would do with down time and laid down on the ground and shut my eyes. The E-5 (senior man) and the driver were freaking out. Finally the SGT came over and said "Why are you so calm?". I told him it was because I wasn't the senior man and I didn't sign for sh*t. He called me some choice words but knew I was right. Those were the good ol days!

Omg, Cap, you're lucky he didn't hand you a 5 gallon fuel container and tell you to fill it and be back in an hour!

SPC(P) Mark Newman - That's very true. I was pretty young then so stuff like that didn't cross my mind!

Once upon a time ago, in my younger SPC days....I was the driver for our APC at Irwin. We had a faulty fuel gauge that I documented on MULTIPLE PMCS sheets.....it always read 1/4 tank high so you would think you had a half tank but actually didn't. I knew this. My Team Leader knew this. I thought my Squad Leader knew this. So one day, we had to roll out of the MP to some spot in the sand box. I told my Squad Leader, who was my TC for this trip, that we needed to fuel up. He said we should be good. I stipulated again we need to fuel up, and he again stipulated that we should be good and needed to get rolling as we were already late.....how I'm still not sure. So, low and behold, after some time driving to the site, we ran out of fuel. He actually started reaming my ass and telling me he was going to recommend and Article 15 for not fueling up. I had to re-argue my case about what I said before we rolled out. I never got the Article 15.
