As a former 16-year member of the Intel Community (IC) remember that sometimes the IC is wrong. Most famously in recent times Iraq with WMD (although we weren't *as* wrong as the public thinks).
Taking a moment to figure out an appropriate response and to confirm the Intel is no bad thing.
Knee jerk reactions - especially knee jerk reactions involving geopolitics and escalatuon of hostilities - are rarely good things.
