Since when does the Marine Corps care how anyone's name is actually pronounced?

I was stationed at Camp Lejeune for about two years in 84-85 and it was always pronounced Lejeune (non Luh jern). I went back to Gieger a few years ago and say all these signs that had (Luh Jern) parenthetically after Lejeune to try to get people to pronounce it "correctly". I think the families pronunciation is simply a regional pronunciation of the name.

While I was never stationed on the East Coast during my 2 enlistments I now live thirty minutes from (Luh-Jern.) My wife and her family grew up here and call the base (Luh-Jern) they are not military besides my wife who is retired Air Force. At Camp Pendleton I heard it pronounced Lejeune. After moving here and hearing the correct pronunciation. I have been to Several ceremonies here from the Vietnam Memorial, the Beirut Bombing Memorial, and the Veterans Day Parade where I had the privilege of meeting the first African American Woman Commanding Officer of Luh - Jern and all pronounced it Luh-Jern. I have the privilege of serving as a Chaplain for the Marine League and have performed several funerals outside of Camp Luh-Jern. The honor and respect that I see demonstrated at these events is the HIGHEST I have ever seen and what attracted me to the Marine Corps. God Bless John Acher Lejeune. As Marines we have never settled for imperfection, but we challenged ourselves to become the best and live our life as such. Semper Fidelis Marine and thank you

Lezhoon is close to the original French, but the family calls themselves Luh Jern. I wasn't here in the 80s... I still say Lezhoon.
