If it doesn't go from your hand to the counting machine, you're giving some one else control over your vote. It's that simple.

Exactly! But even then I would question whether it actually made it into the mail.

The USPS should never be involved, even with absentee ballots. The Military has it's own secure messaging and package systems for troops OCONUS. If you read the section of the constitution about voting, it says the people will meet in a designated area, to be identified, and cast their votes in person. Some where in the last 2 months I put that bit of the US Code in a post.
