Maybe someone to serve 6 years and not be influenced by the President, Congress or any outside agency. Someone to tell the truth and not have to worry about getting fired. Someone who can fire piss poor performance. someone to tell the American people whether the system is flawed or not!

I think there are a few changes that are key to making the VA better at serving veterans:
- Change the attitude and culture of the leaders from that of self service to serving veterans. Many of the employees at the VA Medical Center in Lexington work their tails of serving veterans. I have gotten what I consider excellent service. I don't see the same attitude present in the leadership. (I understand that the news reports skew toward the negative, but there are too many reports to deny)
- Address the bloated costs and focus the money where it needs to be, at the staff level that serves veterans.
- Change programs to make it easier for veterans to get care that is not available. That shouldn't be difficult to do. If it isn't available nearby, they should be able to go to a private provider.
- Continue to improve mental health care. I don't think I need to say more than that.
While I don't know much about Dr. David Shulkin, it looks like they looked for someone with a good combination of business skill, medical background, and leadership. Now let's hope he has the willingness to do what needs to be done and stay in the job.

Its going to take more than one person... but right now we have so many "interm" leaders that getting an actual person into these positions and get the ball moving in a foward direction would greatly help
