Well, let's look at this, and see how much of it is bullish*t.

First, it's in Canada, in Alberta to be specific. I'm not a lawyer in Canada, so I'm not going to comment on the specifics of their laws.

Second, despite what Glen Beck said, the Edmonton Remand Centre is not their maximum security facility where the "worst of the worst" are sent, it's more like a county jail in the United States. All it holds are pre-trial detainees.

Third, religion should not receive a pass for violating the law. He was warned, then fined, then enjoined--and decided to violate a public health law again. He's not being persecuted.

CPT (Join to see) - The Reynolds case said that you could not practice polygamy if there was a prohibition on bigamy, regardless of one's religious beliefs. The Smith decision said that you couldn't use religion to excuse a positive drug test for peyote when obtaining state benefits.

Second, the comparison to Walmart, Liquor stores, etc. are not apt comparisons. You need to look at like venues, movies, concerts, sporting events, where people are seated together for a period of time.

When you don't obey public health requirements, you can be jailed. Mary Mallon (Typhoid Mary) was held on an island in the East River, New York, for well over 20 years, until she died. Coates is not blessed, he's a criminal, who does not care for his fellow man, nor the community in which he lives.

We disagree, but that is okay. At least we have the opportunity to discuss it to a certain extent.

CPT (Join to see) - I'm willing to listen. Why should churches be allowed to violate laws of the type I cited, where movie theaters, sporting events, and so on are also restricted? The Rose Bowl was moved from California to Texas because local health rules barred any attendance. Even in Texas, attendance was limited, with masks and distancing required. In a stadium that seats 80,000 people, attendance was only 18,300, less than 25% of capacity. If you can limit sporting events, you can limit religious events in a like manner.

Your adherence to a religious belief does not entitle you to endanger and infect others, especially those who don't share those beliefs.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I wasn't being insincere when I made my last post.
But at the same time I also am not inclined to argue opinions with you. I would expend a great deal of effort to show where most of your facts are based upon cherry picked instances versus the general thrust of events throughout the country. In the end, you will still believe your facts and hold your ground. I will do the same. There is no reason to spend so much precious effort when, in the end, neither of us will be changing their mind.

Most people don't care what you do, so long as you comply with the law. You don't get to decide what laws you are going to ignore. You also need to consider that any spread won't be limited to your church, but will also affect the surrounding community.
